Freeman Chapel CME

In collaboration with the Nehemiah Project, our studio worked with 7 African American churches in Western Kentucky. My partner and I worked closely with Freeman Chapel CME in Hopkinsville, Kentucky. This is a historical church listed on the Historical Regristrar. Our job was to converse with the congregation to figure out their needs and goals for the church and then design a renovation for their church separated into three phases.

After conversations with the congregation and leaders of the church, the clients primary goals were clear: Address any water damage, address ADA accessibility standards and find a space for a restroom in the basement level. The secondary concerns were considered as well: Renovation of Annex space and create a space for youth programs and classrooms.
